Hello, I’m Abie Burton, the founder and lead designer of Theme Up Studio. As a devoted Ghost theme developer, I channel my passion for clean design and storytelling into every theme I build. Though I discovered Ghost just recently, I quickly became captivated by its simplicity and power.

Discovering Ghost

In early 2022, while planning a personal home décor blog, I explored different CMS options. I came across Ghost CMS and was drawn to its minimalist approach. I downloaded a theme by Fueko, as it was more of something a home decor blog would look like. Then, I spent evenings tweaking its Handlebars files and CSS to match my own aesthetic.

That process of modifying that theme—adjusting layouts, refining typography, and streamlining the code—lit a spark I hadn’t felt in years. Even though my home décor blog never went live 😞, my fascination with Ghost only grew stronger.

Launching Theme Up Studio

By the start of 2023 (New Year resolution period 😝), I decided to turn that late-night coding experiment into something bigger and officially launched Theme Up Studio.

Working primarily during nap times and after bedtime, I immersed myself in coding and learning more about Ghost. By mid-2023, I released my first premium theme—yet despite early enthusiasm from a few friends, it didn’t perform as expected and was not accepted into the official Ghost marketplace. Ghost does not disclose reasons for non-approval, so I still don’t know exactly why it wasn’t accepted.

Balancing Motherhood & Creativity

As a full-time mother to two young children, my schedule is tight. I work in focused blocks—early mornings, nap times, or late evenings—so each moment counts. This taught me the importance of simplicity: both in my workflow and in the themes I design. Just as I minimize distractions for myself, I build themes that let your content shine without unnecessary complexity.

I am yet to learn more, so as to make more complex themes though 🤣

While I lead every design decision, I collaborate with two part-time experts who help ensure top quality. Together, we maintain a lean, flexible studio that delivers personalized attention to each client.
